These are detailed case studies, compiled by ISS research
interns, of major ground-breaking attempts to tackle corruption in Southern
Africa . A brief overview of each study has been provided as well as dozens
of downloadable relevant legal documents (legislation and case law) research
reports, newspaper clippings as welll as relevant web links. This
is a unique attempt to provide researchers with a full picture of these
important events, helping to understand the complexity of anti-corruption
initiatives.
High profile cases involving alleged corruption and bribery
present an opportunity for Southern Africa to take stock not only of
inherent institutional weakness and of equal importance the positive lessons
learnt. All the cases are groundbreaking in that although not resolved,
they have in part highlighted an institutional commitment to combat corruption,
at great odds, with civil society scrutiny and monitoring. More
case studies will be added in due course.
