Legislation
A ‘conflict of interest’ is generally regarded as a situation in which a public official has a private interest which may influence, or appear to influence, a public decision. It can be thought of as an inconsistency or clash between a public official’s duties and his or her private interests.
Conflict of interest laws and Codes of Conduct are designed either to prevent conflicts of interest situations from arising or to manage them properly when they do arise. These laws and regulations often contain provisions related to financial or asset disclosure and the exploitation of one's official position and privileges.
This database provides a unique collection of laws, regulations and related documents relevant to South Africa, thus providing a valuable tool for civil society, the media and policy shapers in the conflicts of interest arena.
